PROJECT OVERVIEW
Pershing Technologies provided audiovisual design, programming, and configuration services for the Georgetown Law Flegal Moot Courtroom. The Moot Courtroom is utilized for simulated court hearings and includes a judge’s bench, plaintiff table, defendant table, lectern, and witness stand. While the room is primarily used by law students and staff, it is also often used by professional law firms within the DC area in order to prepare for upcoming trials.
The Moot Court Room features two 70-inch displays with multi-view capabilities allowing for up to eight simultaneous images for primary viewing. Systems included within the room include annotation and recording, voice lift, source/destination routing, and touch panel based control. The annotation system features a 20-inch touch panel located at the lectern as well as a 20-inch annotation touch panel located at the witness stand to allow for annotating over exhibits and evidence presented as part of a case. The recording system includes four pan/tilt zoom video cameras, a capture device, and an encoding system to allow cases presented to be recorded and played back for teaching and archival purposes. Microphones included as part of the voice lift system are located at the judge’s bench, plaintiff’s table, defendant’s table, and witness stand. Sources provided for the room include a document camera, laptop input, and PC input located at the lectern, a Bluray player and AppleTV are both located within the audiovisual equipment rack within the room, and an auxiliary laptop input is located within the room.
In addition to the Moot Court Room,, Pershing Technologies has successfully completed multiple projects for the Georgetown University Law Center (GULC) including Classroom Upgrades, the Student Center, and a Master Control Room.
Classroom technology upgrades included ceiling mounted projectors/screens, video production systems including pan‐tilt‐zoom cameras, audio/video switching systems, confidence monitors, video conferencing, speech reinforcement, an overhead audio system, and a control system. Several points of control are available within each room: a simple button‐panel for basic functionality, wireless iPad control for advanced features, and remote helpdesk control capability for University technology staff. The Classroom Technology Systems were also integrated with the University’s Crestron RoomView asset management system. Pershing completed two rooms as a pilot in the summer of 2015 that now serve as the baseline standard for a school‐wide technology upgrade renovation effort taking place over the next several years.
The Student Center featured a speech reinforcement and multi‐zoned overhead audio system that is utilized for audio teleconferencing and other events.
The Master Control Room suite currently serves as a central hub for audio and video routing, content editing and post‐production, remote control and monitoring of audiovisual systems, and a portion of the lecture capture capabilities for the Law Center. These functions are critical to the educational mission of the school as they provide the ability for educators to reach and engage students in new and innovative ways, as well as to reach a much broader audience of students and other interested parties in delivering the educational content and research that takes place at GULC. The proposed solution, an IP‐based platform, provides a forward‐looking solution that will not only result in immediately visible improvements in operation and performance, but also provides a platform and architecture that will allow for future growth and expansion as new formats emerge and technologies such as 4K begin to become commonplace.
